The Government of Tamil Nadu, on June 19, 2026, issued Draft amendments to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following has been stated:-
•The Tamil Nadu Government has amended Rule 132 to revise the fee structure for advance vehicle registration numbers.
•The revised fees cover Government allotments based on registration series and Registering Authority allotments based on vehicle value for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, imported cars, and other vehicles.
•Government-allotted advance registration numbers now range from ₹80,000 to ₹8,00,000, depending on the registration series.
•The amended fee schedule also prescribes higher charges based on vehicle value, with imported vehicles attracting fees of up to ₹1,50,000.
